Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, China
Original language
Chinese
Year
2014 - 2017

After more than 1o years waiting, the Civil Government of Jiaxing was deeply impressed by the renewal idea of Tongji University on the 92-hectare-large former industrial and warehouse block (named Luli District). The planning will not only redevelop the whole block into a brand new commercial and business park, but also to keep as more as possible the old industrial buildings. There are 5 principles in this 4-year long design period as: complex-development, mid-height/mid-density, small blocks, industrial heritage preservation and suitable eco-techniques.

Actually, before the final draft, the local people voted their most-liked images online. The Housing and Construction Department of Zhejiang later began to support further research on this project and finally honoured this project as The Excellent Urban Design of the Year of 2017. UN-Habitat also send their experts twice to the spot for more discussions.
