The highway interchanges called "spaghetti junctions" are part of the great classic figures of urban modernity. But isn't it time for these infrastructures to give up mono-functionality and give birth to a new type of building and cityscape ?
Shanghai's multilevel infrastructures allow for the reinvention of the three-dimensional city.
The project aims to reclaim the infrastructure through architecture, by exploring various relationships that could exist between building and highway. The Nanpu Interchange project thus attempts to reclaim the residual land and reinvent urbanity within this massive highway intersection.
