Biophilic Design is a design method aiming to promote biodiversity and nurture the innate human-nature connection. Urban waterfront areas could be potential biophilic sites in the city due to its superior natural attributes and recreational activities, while current research considering natural environment in waterfront and its perception is still in its infancy.

This research aims to explore the characteristics of waterfront green spaces that enhance the experience of biophilic activities. Taking the Huangpu waterfront green space as the research areas, the project selects potential sites of biophilic experience. The data of individual activities and spatial characteristics of green space in the sample plots are collected by means of structured observation method. Through experimental observation and scale measurement, the relationship between biophilic activities and characteristics of waterfront green spaces will be analyzed. Ecological design elements to enhance biophilic experience will be summarized. Finally, design strategies, key indicators and implementation mechanisms will be put forward to provide the basis to improve the ecosystem services of the waterfront.
