In Strasbourg, the teaching of the metropolitan project is based on the teaching of the urban project as developed by a team of professors who have been active at the School of Architecture since the 1980s, and this through a double perspective: the recognition of this precious heritage and the ambition to update it in the light of the problems, experiences and new expectations linked to the multiple evolutions of contemporary urban life.

Heir to these pioneering positions in the field of urban design, the teaching of urban planning and design on a metropolitan scale is approached at ENSAS from the Master's level.

The pedagogical approach, the themes and the tools provided are closely linked to the research activities carried out within the AMUP laboratory (7309 ENSAS-INSA de Strasbourg), where several fundamental research, publications and doctoral theses focus on the redefinition of the tools and methods of the metropolitan project within the discipline of urban architecture. This article is the result of the intertwined approaches of the authors, as well as their dialogue with the project cultures rooted in the School of Architecture and the cross-border territory of Strasbourg.
