Densifying Railstation Neighbourhoods

This Joint Urban Studio 2016 edition looked at the Shanghai Railway Station neighbourhood. Students were asked to analyse the station district and railway lines in their relationship to public space, and the specific urban structures and forms, characteristic landscapes, uses and practices related to this important city gate.

The experimental designs focused on densifying opportunities and the possibility to integrate mix-uses and public space in the upper layers of the vertical city surrounding the railway station.
