Over the past few decades, there is growing concern about mobility problems since it seriously influences our living environment. Meanwhile, the corresponding policies made by the European Commission are also gradually improved. This thesis is the overall interpretation of the contemporary European mobility policy and through the analysis of several major patterns including “integrated mobility”, “intermodality”, “city of short distances” and “last mile” to further reflect the trend of mobility development.

On the other hand, facing the complexities of urban mobility, we have to transform policy into practice and explore innovative ways of implementing them. Fortunately, Georges AMAR, Head of RATP, provided us two innovative ways of thinking: one is urban new modes of transport as well as intermobility and the other is consideration of infrastructure and use from technical level. So complying with this idea, this thesis then takes Strasbourg--a cross-border metropolis--as example to introduce its innovative attempts and practices including “tram-train” and “Cristal CATS” in order to provide a reference on urban mobility development of other cities.
